School Description

Founded in 1965, Florida International University is the first and only public research university in Miami. Today it offers over 200 bachelor's and master's degree programs in areas including arts and sciences, education, business, hospitality and tourism management, communication, architecture, engineering and computing, medicine, law, nursing and health sciences, public health and social work, international and public affairs. Florida International University's campus is home to approximately 54,000 students, nearly 3,200 of which live in more than 6 residential communities on campus, keeping them near to the university's state-of-the-art facilities such as the university center, labs and learning spaces, student food pantry and shops, among many others. Furthermore, the state is bustling with many cultural and outdoor opportunities. Known for its beaches and national parks, there are plenty of museums, restaurants, and destinations to explore at Miami, Florida.

Florida International University requires prospective international students to provide results of their SAT or ACT, as well as proof of English language proficiency through TOEFL or IELTS. Without these, you will need further assistance through an International Accelerator Program (IAP), which is designed to home international students whose first language is not English and support their academic needs in order to prepare them for a student life in the United States. All of these are done while you earn credit hours that will be counted once you later continue on to a bachelor's degree program at the Florida International University.

            My FIU Experience

In 1984 when I went to FIU, it not only gave me the tools to be relevant for the Business world in the field of Finance it also enhanced and honed my leadership skills. For the first three years of my University life I was involved in various aspect of student government and met wonderful and diverse people and learnt about other cultures and taught you how to be tolerant and respect other cultures around the world. My younger sister who went ten years later said she was proud to see my pictuyre in their Hall of Fame. In 1999 I went back and did my Executive Masters in Business Administration. It was the icing on the cake - it was home again to me as I reconnected with former professors who taught me in my course of studies. In a nut shell when I completed my Programme five weeks later, I opened the doors of Fitz Ritson and Associates and to date have never looked back!!!!!

          • 1977-1979, Master’s Degree

            A good faculty

At one time the FIU campus was considered to be in the middle of nowhere. The modern, newly-constructed buildings seemed to rise out of the swamps of western Dade County. There was no community to speak of surrounding he campus. In other words it was like a vast wasteland with buildings of contemporary design waiting for something to happen. But things were happening. Even though the student population was low, the school was managing to attract an outstanding faculty in many fields, but as was my experience, especially in the School of Hotel And Food Service Management, Many famous and revered faculty members had left other well-known schools to move south to the new school and campus and it didn't take long for the university to gain quite a reputation in many fields of endeavor, and one can only suppose it is still that way today, I know that today in the hotel and food industries, when you say you're a graduate of FIU, people seem impressed.
