University of Roehampton is composed of 4 different colleges which were all founded in the 19th century: Digby Stuart College in 1874 was a women's teacher training college established by the Society of the Sacred Heart; Froebel College, founded in 1892, was known especially for its teacher education and is home to the Department of Education today; Southland College in the 1870s; and Whiteland College, one of England's oldest higher education institutions with a history that dates back to the year 1841.
Today, University of Roehampton's campus sits on 60 acres of parkland that boasts of historic buildings among modern, state-of-the art facilities, and houses the university's 12 academic departments within its 4 colleges, through which it offers over 60 undergraduate courses and over 60 postgraduate study programs in areas of business, performing arts, education, writing, humanities, life sciences, media, psychology, and social sciences.
