Just Returned From My 30-Year ReunionYYA day hasn't passed in the 30 years since I graduated from St. John's that I don't benefit personally or professionally from my four years studying there. SJC's discursive, multi-disciplinary approach to learning is the perfect preparation for grad school and/or the business world.
1973-1977, B.A., Liberal Arts
If I had to do it over again....YYI would not change even one second of the four year experience I had at St. John's. The good, bad, and ugly shaped who I am today in many ways. It certainly is not for everyone, perhaps not for most people. But for the people for whom it is a fit, it is a life "shaping" experience like no other.
1971-1975, B.A., Philosophy, Mathematics
I would choose St. John's again and again, if I couldYYTwo crucial things that I learned at St. John's have made my life better - how to read without an agenda already in my head, and how to think without ego, and with care. A few years after college I married a man who graduated from an Ivy League college. From the get-go he and I both believed I got a better education. (He attends most of the alumni seminars in LA, which are held in our home, and is considered an honorary Johnie.) YYI did not attend St. John's after the technology rush of the last few decades, but I know technology. Those skills although necessary in today's world, can be learned at many places, or even on one's own. The kind of concerted attention to text I learned at St. John's is rare, and has given me a better life, and a better career.
