The university however was officially established in 1951 when its Acts of Incorporation was passed by the Illinois legislature. With little money, land and limited higher education experience, the vision of these nine men was ambitious, but nevertheless in 1853, the founders purchased a 379-acre tract of land on the shore of Lake Michigan 12 miles north of Chicago, and established a campus. After completing its first building in 1855, Northwestern began classes that fall with two faculty members and 10 students.

Yes, academically, Northwestern is well known to be a challenging school. And, I learned a lot about Computer Science and other subjects. And, I got a lot more out of my 4 years in Evanston. I met my closest friends and partners at NU, including my wife. I made my first web page in the EE computer room. I gained a lot of credibility just from Northwestern's name on my diploma. I learned that I was not cut out to be a professional bassoon player. I played pickup basketball as often as I liked (pretty often.) I'm a big fan of higher education in general and an even bigger fan of my alma-mater. If you're curious about NU and want to talk, feel free to connect.

As an engineering student, I love to focus on those specific academic classes, but do not want to miss out on the classical liberal arts education that is so important every collegiate student experience to some degree. Northwestern's six specialized undergraduate schools allow you to focus in on your passion, surrounded by incredible peer talent and plentiful resources, but also lend flexibility to experiment with other classes across the spectrum, be it in Anthropology, Theatre, or Journalism. This is a true rarity these days and Northwestern offers a unique opportunity to take advantage of this educational compilation.

I was fascinated to have classmates who were as ambitious, energetic and passionate as anybody I've ever met. Their passion was for the mission of their nonprofit organization, and those missions were fascinating and diverse. It was a delightful experience. They also have generous financial aid so it is an incredible bang for the buck.
