University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) located in Augusta, Maine, is a part of the University of Maine System. UMA offers Undergraduate, Associate, Minor and Certificate programs on the Augusta Campus, the Bangor Campus, Online, and across the state at University College Centers.
School Description
University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) was established in 1965 as a community-based institution under the umbrella of the University of Maine at Orono allowing it to award associate degrees. In 1971 UMA became an autonomous institution and the seventh campus of the University of Maine System. In 1975, UMA offered its first baccalaureate degree program.
In 1986 UMA took on the responsibility of leading the University of Maine System. As part of this system, UMA developed a state-wide interactive television system with a network of over 100 off-campus centers and coordinated the delivery of university programs, courses, and services at these centers. This system, called University College became part UMA in 2008.
The University of Maine at Augusta is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. Prior to 1998 UMA offered only 3 undergraduate programs; today this number has grown to 18.
