I graduated back in the mid 70's when the University was fairly new. The opportunities I took advantage of then, are even more available to students who are serious about getting a tremendous education, both in and out of the classroom. It has come a long way since the '70's, and I believe is going to continue to grow and develop, remaining one of the top University's in the country and the world. Zot on...

I'm in my last year here as a transfer student to UCI and it's been a wonderful experience. The amount of opportunities being a student here has given me is amazing, it has lots of on-campus services and organizations as well as just being connected to the local companies in Irvine. In general the classes are good (I'm a Software Engineering major, I don't know for other majors, but UCI has a good ICS/CS department), the professors are great, and the student body is very friendly, I've made lots of lifelong friends here. The campus is built around a park, and is gorgeous, for such a young school I believe it has a great future 10/10 would recommend.

You get a broad base of foundational understanding before specializing. It enables you to be an engineer first and foremost encompassing mechanics, electromagnetics, thermodynamics, information theory. Most useful is the ability to see and model systems in many dpmains and analogs. Software, analog and hardware tradeoffs become second nature.
