School Description

Randolph College was first known as the Randolph-Macon Woman's College (R-MWC) founded by William Waugh Smith in 1891 to provide a college where young women can acquire equal quality education. It was named after two men, John Randolph of Virginia and Senator Nathaniel Macon of North Carolina, who were best known for their political roles in the 19th century. The institution became the first women's college to be admitted to the Association of Colleges and Preparatory Schools of the Southern States in the year 1902 and by late 1960s enrollment was at its all time high. However, with more exclusive male institutions starting to open its doors to women, Trustees of R-MWC decided to go co-educational and in July 2007 became Randolph College.

Enrollment growth of Randolph College has been consistent since 2009 with students representing 35 states and 20 countries. Its 100-acre campus boasts of 18 academic buildings recognized by the National Register of Historic Places and top-notch athletics facilities. Randolph College offers 29 majors and 43 minors, with the option for independently tailored majors for students, 5 pre-professional programs in law, medicine, veterinary medicine, education, and engineering, as well as graduate coursework for education. All classes are taught by professors, 94% of which hold the highest possible degree in their respective fields.
