Program Description

If the human mind fascinates you, if you long to help people overcome mental disorders, or if you just want to learn what makes your mind tick, a Bachelor of Science in psychology might be the degree for you. This four-year degree program is perfect for those who want to go into the mental health profession, become psychological profilers, or pursue human research careers.

James Madison University offers a comprehensive program in psychology, including studies in mental illness, human development, ethics, educational psychology, statistics, anatomy, human diversity, counseling skills, abuse, forensic psychology, and behavioral analysis. Students may select from topics based on what type of career they would like to pursue. The degree is intended to offer psychological perspectives in natural and social sciences, sociocultural issues, and biopsychology.

Completion of the program includes 120 credit hours, of which 51 credit hours belong to the major. Students must also complete a capstone project that consists of either a historical thesis, a field internship, or a laboratory research project. An honors course is also available within the program, which would earn the student an additional distinction upon graduation.
