          • 2006-2010, B.A.

Hastings College helped prepare me for graduate school and the "real world" in so many ways it is tough to list in a short blurb. The primary advantage Hastings has over any school is its first rate professors (The Center for College Affordability and Productivity agrees with me). As I meet more people who did not attend Hastings College it has become clear that the level of engagement between Hastings professors and students is very atypical. Hastings College professors excel at teaching students the process of researching, understanding, and solving problems independent of any particular discipline. I was glad to have professors dedicated to helping me gain discipline specific skills, but I was truly fortunate to have three specific professors (one in economics, one in business administration, and one in marketing) that took the time to help me acquire fungible problem solving skills. Apart from the great academic experience Hastings provides a plethora of activities including academic showcase days, collegiate athletics, and performing arts programs. At Hastings the perfect cliche is "you get out of Hastings College, what you put into it." For any student who wants to spend 4 years immersed in a culture that is obsessed with helping you learn and prepare for whatever you want your future to be, Hastings College is your home!

There are so many things that I enjoyed about my experience at Hastings College in the late 1990s. Back then, we always spoke about the "HC Advantage." One of the HC Advantages would be the professors. The professors were always willing to work with you both in and out of the classroom. I had to take a summer course for my Communications major and Professor Power allowed me to take it as a sort of independent study so I could earn my credit and pre-requisite for my major. Another one of the HC Advantages would be all of the opportunities available for students. I was involved in band, a small ensemble, theater productions, and other activities. Being able to be involved with many different things not only allowed me to broaden my horizons, but also allowed me to meet many different people on campus. I would recommend Hastings College to anyone, but especially students who are willing to do the work required to be successful. Hastings College may not be an Ivy, but it's no walk in the park either. You get out of it what you put into it. Put in the effort and you will have a great experience at Hastings College.

          • , BA

Hastings was initially chosen because it was a small school where one was not a number. Within the first day as a freshman the reasoning for the choice was confirmed and my life-long education began. One could become involved in any organization they wanted. Professors always had open doors and knew each student better than we might have thought. They gave me the confidence to live and work in school and life. Then there were the students who were helpful, encouraging, friendly and special each in their own way. I had a difficult time deciding my major because the choices varied, and we were required to take subjects that may not have been of interest or were out of our comfort zones. What was I to do...science (but which one, I loved biology and geology), art (profs were fun and projects interesting), but the love of reading won out giving me a BA in English Literature. Years later I would pursue an MLIS and was so grateful for the discipline of the education I had received at HC. Anyone wanting the best education for life and the experience of working with fantastic students and professors should consider Hastings. Thank you HC.
