Favorite class: My favorite class is my business class because it has a great instructor. I am passionate about learning about business and understanding how companies and the world economy operate.
Favorite school event: My favorite school event is the International Dinner. During that event, every international student cooks a dish from their country and shares it with the community. It is my favorite event because it a unique opportunity to discover cuisines from different countries.

Tell us a little about yourself…
My name is Songuifolo Yeo and I am 29 years old. I am from Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa. I have lived and studied in the city of Abidjan. I received my high school degree at the Lycee Classique of Abidjan. I then completed an Associate’s Degree in English and a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Linguistics at the University of Felix Houphouet Boigny of Abidjan-Côte d’Ivoire. I am now pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.
What were your school experiences like before university?
My school experiences before university were good because I went to the Classique High School of Abidjan-Côte d’Ivoire, which is in the former capital city of the country. Besides studying, I was also involved in extracurricular activities. In fact, I was the chairman of the English Club of my high school. I was also a member of the Environment Club, which helped me make friends and meet a lot of people.
How did you hear about Neosho and what made you decide to study in the US?
I decided to come to the United States for college because the colleges and universities in the United States rank among the best in the world. They offer high quality education and training with outstanding instructors. Plus, degrees from the United States are valuable all over the world. So, studying in the United States will make me a more qualified and competent person and it will allow me to have better job opportunities.
I chose Neosho County Community College because the college is affordable, it has small classes and a peaceful learning environment. Moreover, the college has outstanding, committed and supportive instructors and staff. The college provides free tutoring in order to help students achieve excellent results.

Did you have any problems adjusting to life in a new country and university?
I did not have any problems in adjusting to life in a new city because I adapt to new situations easily and I am easy going. In addition, Neosho is in a small town where the people are welcoming and nice and there is a great sense of community. All this makes it easy to adjust to the new environment because you feel like you are at home.
What were your first few days at Neosho like?
In my first few days, I felt very impressed by the facilities and campus. I also liked the beautiful and peaceful environment, which I do not have in my home country. I felt comfortable and was glad the community was welcoming. I felt like I was home.
Before my first class, I was very nervous because I did not know the instructors and how the classes were going to be conducted. However, after the first week of class I felt more confident and comfortable because I found out that the instructors were great.
What has your experience been like as an international student at Neosho County Community College both academically and socially?
I have had a great experience here at Neosho County Community College. I feel comfortable and at ease thanks to the assistance provided by the staff and the instructors. I enjoy my major because the instructors are very good and committed which has helped me attain a good academic standing with a GPA of 3.9.
Neosho County Community College is situated in Chanute, Kansas. Nearby is Kansas City where there are many attractions such as the Kansa Aviation Museum, Museum of World Treasures, Botanical Garden and the Sedgwick County Zoo. There are also many historic sites and festivals.
The school also has an International Students Service which helps international students. This service has wonderful staff who are approachable and ready to listen to all your concerns in order to help you effectively.
Did you have a job while studying?
Yes, I have a work-study position in the Human Resources Department and at the Scholarship Foundation. This is a great experience for me because it supports my major and my future career.
Do your current studies support your interest and talent? If so, how?
My current studies support my interest and my talent because as a business major, I am the president of the Business Club and a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). This gives me the opportunity to work harder and also improve my leadership skills.
What are your plans after you graduate?
After graduating, I plan to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and then a Master’s Degree in Finance. Then I want to work in an international financial institution and create my own company as well.
How has Neosho County Community College prepared you for life after university?
Neosho County Community College prepared me for my future professional life as I have learned a lot from their outstanding instructors and challenging classes. The college helped me have a global perspective with its diverse student body. Moreover, it prepared me for my professional career through various field visits and activities that the business club offers each year so that students can see how a company works from the inside. It also helped me develop my leadership skills through its honor programs.
What would you say to international students who are considering studying at Neosho County Community College?
I would tell them that Neosho County Community College is a favorable opportunity for them to seize. It is the perfect place for students to grow at social, academic and professional levels.
