It is one of only a few colleges in the United States to offer students core classes that cover more than just general education. There are over 199 innovative core classes at Roanoke – some of the topics are Chemistry and Crime, Global Citizenship, How Women Got the Vote, Mobile Apps, Myths of Musical Genius, Psychology in the Media, and A Study of American Film.

Merit-based Scholarships

Roanoke College aims to give students the freedom and opportunity to achieve their goals and aspirations, and with this philosophy in mind, the school offers several merit-based scholarships to students across all programs who study hard and achieve good grades. Over $30 million has been given to students in the form of these merit scholarships, as recognition for their diligence. The school also holds a Scholars Competition where students can audition and apply for a music, theatre, or arts scholarship. Roanoke College and the surrounding valley are full of fun, exciting things to do, and places to discover. The school has over 100 student clubs and organisations on its roster, some of which include Roanoke College Choir, Entrepreneurs Club, The Brackety-Ack campus newspaper, Habitat for Humanity, International Club, Interfaith Council, and Outdoor Adventures. There are also many activities planned every week on campus such as plays, lectures, sports events, dances, and barbecues.
